Stars Steam & Spirits - a unique event hosted by Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway

Stars, Steam & Spirits

Join us on a moonless night and be illuminated! Atherton Herberton Historic Railway together with Ian McLean of Night Sky Secrets. 

Enjoy a drink on arrival from Wild River Mountain Distillery, Dinner in the Herberton Railway Refreshment Room, Board the Peckett Steam Train to the Historic Village Herberton Platform, Ian will amaze you  with a 1 Hour Astronomy session with two large telescopes for an informative observation, Board the Peckett Steam Train again for your return to Herberton Railway Station where you can enjoy Dessert and Astronomy stories by Ian & his wife Roseanne under the night sky to finish.

Far North Heritage Expo hosted by the Herberton Mining Museum

Far North Heritage Expo

Come along to the inaugural Far North Heritage Expo hosted by the Herberton Mining Museum. There will be so much happening and entry is FREE!

Exhibits by Museums and Historical Societies from across the Far North Bring your small antiques for appraisal by Nick from Antiques on the Radio, Guided tours of the Great Northern Mine, Live hand steel demos by Herberton and District Rock Drill Club, Genealogy workshops by Cairns Museum, Oral History recording booth, Museum and Archive tours, Guest speakers, Try your hand at tin panning, Lapidary displays & Food and drinks.

Herberton Flower Show

The Annual Herberton Flower Show

Hosted by the Herberton Garden Group who also do such a fabulous job looking after the beautiful flowers in our main street.

Enter your flowers and arrangements and be part of the fun. Everyone has something they could include and if you dont have a green thumb, place an entry into the photography or craft sections.

Did you know our Flower Show is one of the longest continuously running Flower Shows in Australia? It draws visitors from all over Australia!

1905 Peckett Steam Train - Atherton Herberton Heritage Railway

Peckett Steam Train Rides – Welcome to our fully restored 1905 Peckett Steam Locomotive along with its also  fully restored 1913 wooden passenger carriage, running from Herberton Station to the Historic Village Herberton on selected weekends.

The Railway is a not for profit organisation formed , run and managed by a group of passionate volunteers who are dedicated to bringing our 113 year old railway history to life for the benefit of the Tableland community and visitors.

The Herberton Twilight Christmas Markets

The main street of Herberton comes alive with markets, music, food and lots of stalls!  Santa makes a grand entrance in the local Fire Engine. Get a photo with Santa and if your lucky with his Donkeys too!

Pioneer Weekend at the Historic Village Herberton, Atherton Tablelands

Pioneer Weekend 

Olden day Australia comes alive as our pioneers climb out of the history books at the Historic Village Herberton for one weekend a year. See experts in their field demonstrate blacksmithing, wood chopping, tin panning, small engines, and more. With lots of fun entertainment for the children, great local entertainment, and train rides for the family, there is so much to see and do over the two-day event.  Don’t forget to dress up with Fashions on the Field prizes for the best-dressed kids and adults.
